Using Filters in Gmail

Gmail filters are a way for you to automate the handling of incoming messages.

You can manage your incoming emails using this feature to send email to a label, or archive, delete, star, or automatically forward your mail.

By using filters, you can:

  1. Have unimportant messages such as newsletters or reports automatically get sorted into an out-of-the-way location and never even show up in your inbox
  2. Make sure messages from specific high-priority senders are always sent to your inbox's Primary tab, where you're certain not to miss them
  3. Forward messages from a specific email address or with a specific word in the subjects to other members of your team
  4. Instantly respond to emails from a specific email address with a pre-written template

Filters allows you to redirect emails as these arrive, thereby saving the trouble of having to sort and manage some messages manually, and in effect, saving a lot of time.
